About Me

“Bowen was fantastic, lovely, and won the audience.” Susan Tarleton

Since 2020, Bowen has become an exciting new storyteller, performing for virtual national storytelling events like the National Storytelling Network (NSN) Earth Up Conference, The NSN Connected Annual Conference, Six Feet Apart Productions, and Better Said Than Done. She has told for the Storytelling Association of California for Story Bridge and Special Event Concerts as a featured artist. Locally she has given performances at the Menlo Park Library Story Fest, the Oakland Museum, Paradise Valley, the Museum on Main, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and a natural and cultural history performance at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History commemorating her Chinese American fishing community family in Monterey, CA.. She has won numerous national story slams and been an NSN Grand Slam winner.

In 2022 she became a Chautauqua scholar, portraying women of history for the humanities. Her Chautauqua characters are Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb to the top of Mt. Everest, Anna May Wong, the first Chinese American actress of international fame, and Wong Choy Kui, Bowen’s great grandmother who was born and raised in the Chinese fishing village in Monterey in the 19th century. She is an expert in the history of the Chinese at Pt. Lobos, the site of the first Chinese families in the United States.

Bowen has been a naturalist since she was a child, fascinated and ever seeking to know more about the natural world. It is her intention to bring stories as part of the climate crisis solution, for stories can change perspectives and guide us to positive solutions for the world’s challenges.
